Always Aim High is an events team passionate about hosting some of the most ultimate sports challenges in some of the most stunning locations around the UK. This year Snowdonia will again be home to some of these exciting sports events and here’s how you can get involved! “Dramatic races in beautiful places.” – Always Aim High. North Wales is passionate about language, music, history and sport. It boasts some of the most spectacular scenery throughout the UK with magnificent landscapes brimming with castles, stately homes and gardens, and Snowdonia’s famous beaches, rivers, lakes, waterfalls and mountains are breath-taking locales for thrill seekers everywhere. Visitors can enjoy all kinds of fun activities from mountain biking to white water kayaking, rafting, sea kayaking, rock climbing, gorge walking, canyoning, coasteering, orienteering, paragliding and kite surfing to name just a few! What’s unique about Wales is the fact that we’ve got everything in such a small radius. You can do it all here. You can do everything. These kinds of endurance events have been gaining momentum over the years and are extremely popular today, with North Wales home to an incredible array of triathlons, mountain and trail races as well as cycling trails throughout the stunning mountains of Snowdonia. Take a look at some of the events coming your way this year! Slateman Triathlon – Llanberis – 21 & 22nd May 2016 Swim surrounded by glorious mountains, bike a course across the heart of the Snowdonia National Park and run through an awesome slate quarry. This race offers a unique mix of incredible scenery and a challenging atmosphere, delivered over two days with two tri options of the Slateman Sprint on Saturday and the Slateman Full on Sunday. The Slateman Triathlon is the first in the 2016 Adventure Triathlon Series, alongside the Sandman Tri and the Snowdonia Tri. TOUGH: You have to be tough, or crazy, to tackle this whole Slateman weekend by completing the sprint and the full. If you can manage it though you’ll be dubbed a Slateman Savage and a bespoke t-shirt will be awarded to all finishers in recognition of their awesome achievement! Step Back in Time on the Ffestiniog Railway

The Ffestiniog Railway is the oldest independent railway in the world, dating back to 1832. The railway was originally built to transport slate from the local quarries and three of the original 150 year-old locomotives still remain in operation to this day. The award winning Ffestiniog Railway is one of the top tourist attractions in Snowdonia, and allows visitors to enjoy the stunning scenery in a unique and thrilling way. In addition, the trains pass through areas that are inaccessible by any other means, giving passengers a really special and exclusive experience. Let Ffestiniogs comfortable and historic carriages transport you not only through some of the most majestic countryside in the UK, but back to the golden age of travel, demonstrating rail travel as it should be. The Ffestiniog Railway covers 13.5 miles from Porthmadog Harbour to the slate quarry town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. In addition, passengers can experience the luxury of the Welsh highland Railway which covers a 25 mile track from Caernarfon to Porthmadog, where you can ride in a first class Pullman luxury carriage and have freshly cooked food delivered straight to your seat. There are lots of exciting events happening at the railway during 2016 and you can see a complete list over on the Ffestionig Railway Site Here are some events we are particularly looking forward to: The Snowdonian – 16th April This is a special fundraising event which takes passengers on an 80 mile round trip of both the Welsh Highland Railway and the Ffestiniog Railway.  The Snowdonian promises to be the highlight of the 2016 schedule for the railways.   Rail Ale – 20th – 22nd May The 12th annual beer festival will be celebrating all that is great about beer, music and trains. Jazz in the Park – various dates during July and August. An ever popular event incorporating the best jazz musicians and delicious BBQ food, held at Tan y Bwlch. Welsh Highland Railway – Super Power – 9th – 11th  September Based around Dinas station this event features model railway layouts as well as plenty of real trains to explore. The event will also feature, food, stalls, games and entertainment – one not to be missed.
