Car Free Tourism and the Snowdon Sherpa.
The Sherpa’r Wyddfa (Snowdon Sherpa) is a specialized bus network designed to provide seamless, sustainable travel throughout the heart of the Eryri National Park. Acting as a vital link between the six main footpaths of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the service allows hikers the freedom to ascend one path and descend another without being tethered to a single car park.
As a pioneer of sustainable hospitality in Betws-y-Coed, Bryn Bella is a proud advocate for car-free tourism in the Eryri National Park. We encourage our guests to “take the parking out of the park” by utilizing the exceptional Sherpa’r Wyddfa. This dedicated service allows you to explore the majestic landscapes of Snowdonia without the stress of navigating narrow mountain passes or finding parking at busy trailheads. By choosing the Sherpa, you contribute to the protection of this delicate environment while enjoying the freedom to hike between different valleys, such as ascending the Pyg Track and descending into Llanberis, all while leaving your vehicle safely in our complimentary on-site parking.
To help you get an early start on your mountain adventures, the first S1 Sherpa bus typically departs from the Betws-y-Coed railway station—just a short walk from our driveway—at 08:05, arriving at the iconic Pen-y-Pass trailhead by 08:25.
Sustainable Freedom: Link directly to all six main routes up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and key villages like Llanberis and Beddgelert.
Stress-Free Logistics: Avoid the “pre-booked parking” requirements at major trailheads by arriving relaxed on the bus.
Affordable Exploration: Use “1bws” multi-operator day tickets for unlimited travel across North Wales, with contactless payment accepted on all Sherpa services.
Brailsford Way
For cycling enthusiasts, Bryn Bella serves as the ultimate base for tackling the Brailsford Way, a pair of world-class road cycling routes (50 and 75 miles) named in honour of the legendary Sir David Brailsford. Starting right from our “Gateway to Snowdonia” location in Betws-y-Coed, you can join this waymarked circuit to experience the very best of Eryri’s dramatic landscape. The route will challenge your pulse with iconic climbs like the Llanberis Pass and the Crimea Pass—the highest point on the Way—before rewarding you with exhilarating descents past UNESCO castles and shimmering glacial lakes. Whether you are a dedicated road rider looking to test your endurance on the full 75-mile loop or a leisure cyclist wanting to explore the scenic stretches toward Capel Curig, the Brailsford Way offers an unforgettable journey through the heart of North Wales. After your ride, you can return to Bryn Bella to take advantage of our facilities, ensuring both you and your bike are ready for the next day’s adventure.
