This title recognises more than two decades of environmental commitment here in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Sustainability at Bryn Bella Since 2003
We opened Bryn Bella in 2003, well before eco-tourism became a familiar phrase. From the outset, we recognised a simple responsibility. Anyone lucky enough to welcome guests into one of the world’s most beautiful landscapes should also help protect it. As a result, that principle has shaped every decision since.
Over the years, we have built sustainability into daily operations rather than treating it as an add-on. We generate our electricity from renewable sources and heat our water using solar energy. Our garden also plays its part. We grow our own fruit and vegetables and keep chickens for fresh eggs. Non-native conifers in the garden have also given way to native species, creating a proper wildlife pond. In 2012, we also became the first guest house in Snowdonia to install electric car charging. We still offer it free to guests who book directly with us.
A Track Record of Recognition
The AA award now joins a growing list of accolades for our sustainable guest house in Eryri. We already hold a Green Tourism Gold award and Copa Gold status. This is the top tier of the Eryri National Park Authority‘s Plastic Free Yr Wyddfa scheme. It confirms at least 90 percent plastic-free operations. We also hold TripAdvisor GreenLeaders Platinum status, and we won a Goldstar Award back in 2014. None of these awards was ever the goal, though. Instead, each one simply marks a point along a journey. That journey began with a single decision: to do right by this landscape.
